A good example of why I like reading more then one translation of a scripture. The image becomes fuller and sometimes a particular word or phrase in one translation makes everything clearer. I think of multiple translations as being the work of the Spirit, similar to the day of Pentecost---"...each one heard them speaking in his own language." (Acts 2:6) The Spirit illuminates the Word for us so that we hear it in a language we can understand. Different translations speak clearly to different people.
The MSG here sums it up with 2 catchy words---you arm us and aim us in the right direction. Your words in scripture and your Word in Jesus Christ do this for us. The Spirit opens up the power of the Word for us, arming us with the "sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Eph 6:17) and then He aims us in the right direction, making our way perfect in Jesus Christ, "the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6)
