Words of Life: Part 8...JOY

Isaiah 12:3  "with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation." (NIV)

Today I will write about Joy.  What does it mean to draw water from the wells of salvation?  In my mind the story of the woman at the well's encounter with Jesus comes to mind.

John 4:10  Jesus tells her:  "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."  (NIV)

Salvation is God's gift and comes through Jesus Christ.  To receive this gift, this living water, we must only believe.  Drawing this water from the wells of salvation is great joy for everyone!

When we drink the living water of Jesus Christ and his salvation we are told---"whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst again.  Indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up  to eternal life."  John 4:13-14  (NIV)

Revelation 2:1,17  "Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city..."let him who hears say, "Come!"  Whoever is thirsty, let him come, and whoever wishes let him take the free gift of the water of life."  (NIV)

I seem to have moved away from "joy" verses, but this is where we find our eternal joy---the river of life, salvation, eternity in the presence of God and the Lamb.

The first announcement of this joy:

Luke 2:10-11  "Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you, he is Christ the Lord!"  (NIV)

Jesus is our joy!  Good news indeed!  Salvation come down for all people!  Rejoice!

Tomorrow:  JOY continued
